Park by the fields and run down to the beach

Hold out my arms to embrace the scene:

Ocean framed by jutting grassrock to the sides, roofed by cloud

As I watch everything points to the centre of view, a tunnel’s end ahead

The heavy water heaves and breathes

The clouds draw rain from the ocean along the horizon

The winds whitewash the water-music into a fuzzed-out bass roar

There is no sun here, the only light a blinding grey

I lie down in the sand, starfish, angel

I feel the weight of providence drown me in air

[Inspired by the death scene in American Beauty, where the character describes his final experience before dying stretching to an eternity. “For me, it was lying on my back at Boy Scout Camp, watching falling stars“. The video can be watched on youtube, but it’s a massive spoiler.]
